The charts are saying that by lunchtime there will be ash overhead. In aviation you make decisions based on the information you have to hand...

Met Office forecaster Philip Avery said the ash could take several days to clear.

and your evidence to back this up - Thermodynamics of jet engines prove very complex - ash cloud would destroy the ability of an jet propulsion engine to work

A friend of my family has met the pilot of said 747 flight where the ash screwed the engines and scrubbed the paint off the plane.
True story

Then the ash cloud would become radioactive as well, that wouldn't help anyone

All flights cancelled until 6pm tonight.
I've got an incident line to call, but Thomas Cook were no use other than that because they know as much as I do... fantastic

I reckon we take one of the converted 747s for desert firefighting and fill it with salt and drop it on iceland.
That would learn em

Well, there is a cloud of ash, it's floating around and no-one knows what's going to happen to it.

It's being blown south-east, I didn't know how big the cloud was, how much it's affecting, but we're flying across the atantic, (westerly) so I was trying to find out if it clears that direction whether there'd be a chance of flights.
Forgive me for trying to find answers, only spent £1,100 on a holiday for tomorrow to see my girlfriends brother get married, guess I should just sit here silently

I wonder how many people didn't go to work today for fear of the ash causing "traffic chaos"

The one that just erupted spewed out 10 years worth of Co2. If the ash lands on the north pole then it could accelerate polar ice cap melting. We're all going to DIE!
