Think their suppose to give it back and aslong as you can use a genuine note you can pay for the goods otehrwise ejected from store. But that's from a retail point of view.
Boots staff are pretty good at taking really bad fakes so i've heard....

Legally, in a shop if you recieve a fake note you should retain the note, notify the police and the police will dispose of it.
If you take it to the bank they will also take it off you & dispose.
At b&q they dont give a monkeys about what they take they just whack it in the till! Buy something somewhere then go to the returns desk and get a refund
Also where did you get a £20 note in change?!

I was working along the theory of, shop gives you £49.60 in change which is money they wont see again, then lets say they take that £50 note to the bank, they try deposit the money, the bank will keep it and obviously not deposit into their account.
To recap they have given out £49.60 in change + Practically given a £50 note away giving you the grand total of £99.60 lost

davcohen is right, they lose the 49.60 in change from the till and also lose the actual fake note which means they lose 99.60

go to the auto machines in tesco or summit...can they be had?
If not, just go into a shop with some orange faced retard who looks like they got dresses in the dark on the till...and you'll be laughing.

Lol yes, spend it with great difficulty. Down south you really do get some total retards, looking at a scottish note as though its a porno card. Or maybe all, is in your case are just ignorant.

I can see what you two are meaning here, but think about it, they had £50 in the till, they take £50 in (which is fake) and give out 49.60 meaning thats all they have lost.
If it was real they would still have the money in the till meaning no loss, but as they £50 is fake they have lost the change they gave out

no because the £50 note was taken instead of the change 40p for the mars bar thye give £49.60 in change the £50 goes in the till so they have lost nothing in that transaction thye are even when they go to the bank and they say its fake thye keep the note yes they lose the £50 note but that was offset by the change basically they just gave away £50 that is all its likie me giving you £50 then you not giving it me back

the guy physically hands out 49.60 out of his till, he takes the fake fifty , he then loses that fake fifty to the bank, he has lost the 49.60 and then the 50 itself so he has lost both.

The fake £50 isn't worth anything, so he's only lost the £49.60.

i must be being stupid then because the way i see it, he has given out 49.60 in change, he then puts the fake fifty in his till , he then takes that fake fifty to the bank who take it off him as its fake, he has therefore lost the 49.60 he handed out in change and also the fifty which was issued to him?

WTF, he gives out the £49.60 in change therefore he has a fake fifty which is either:
Worth £50 to him so he is square
Worth nothing to him so he is £50 down.
He's never £99.60 down. When the bank tell him it's fake, he's down the Mars bar and the change, nothing more.
If that were true then if he took a genuine £50 and the accepted it he would still be down for the change. Which obviously isn't the case. The bank will only ever credit him £50 for a genuine note, being potentially £99.60 down would mean that when he took his days takings there he would never be in profit.
