Can you not get a Scirocco in that budget, I'd take that over an astra or a golf.

i went to see my brother at work the other day, and he showed me a new astra "sri".

i love the vauxhall brand, but this was about as sri as a a tub of cranberrys.

plenty of people can. i had my st at 19.

i'd personally go for the astra out of those too, but you could get so much more car for your money if you look elsewhere.

can get a brand new focus st3 for 17k...

the interior on the astra looks lovely big step up in quality from the outgoing model.

can still afford it though, so why does it make any difference?

same as a mortgage. not many people buy houses with cash...

seriously, whats the big deal with finance? it's like a fucking taboo subject

What you gettin shirty for? I never said there was a problem with it. Most people do it, including myself occasionally. I just said that's how people do it.

most people on here start talking shit about ''you can't afford it if you get finance'' etc etc. thought you were going to be the same.

fair play to the lad for saving up 20k cash. i couldn't at that age, and i was/am in a very well paid job.

I've driven the Golf and the GTi is complete wank so I'd imagine that's just as bad.

I can't coment on the Astra but I agree with Ian don't bother with either for that kind of money.

Both your options are, IMO, bland.

Even if was interesting, it's still going to lose thousands in the first six months.

Having saved up the money, that's got to sting somewhat.

Astra interior looks much more interesting. Compared to the old Astra is miles better, and is better than the Golf.

Golf will hold its value like a rock compared to the Astra though. Once a few more astras appear on the roads their second hand value will plummet. The premium of the Golf is probably money well spent if thats the kind of car you're after.

I wouldn't buy either tbh, but thats my preference.
