Autocar rates it pretty much the same as the clio. Which they rate as the best small hatch and as good as a focus rs on the road...

so in short. Very good.

Brakes fade, too much body roll etc.

I concour.

Awaits internetz people flaming me.

VXR "should" be better on the road, lots more torque makes it a better road car. On track though, Clio thrashes it quite easily.

I've not spent any length of time in one but around Bruntingthorpe I came away fairly impressed. Of course there are mass-market compromises but I was suprised at the tendencies, the rear certainly makes a contribution to turn in, even if the necessary understeer is handed to you on the edge. As for what differs I'm not sure. Modern EPC may yield some clues.

See link posted above Oliver. thats jsut one test too. It consistantly comes in slower round a track than the Clio does.

got to take the VX blinkers off dude. The Corsa has the grunt out the corners on the ROAD, but on the TRACK the clio is the far superior chassis. Even on the single example shown you can see the corsa is more squashy and more of a handfull, where as the clio is more direct and has better feedback imo.

Here comes another Damien bashing for having an opinion

They use the short circuit on this clip don't they (5th gear clip im guessing, thats what i've based my memory of that video on).

In which case, 1.2 seconds is huge.

1.2 seconds on a 1.16 lap is massive!

However I cant take any 'TV track test' seriously. Like right at the start the Corsa went on the grass, why didnt they just do another lap? because its entertainment pretending to be factual information.

1 second on the road isn't noticeable at all.

most normal people will never take their corsa vxr on track so why does everyone go on about a track being the be all and end all?

i think its just a case of some people love vauxhall and will defend them!

i am quite happy to admit another car is beta, i may prefer a tuned corsa vxr cos its faster and feels faster accelerating cos of the turbo! but really the clio is beta!

i love my vx220 and the power delivery is wild, but in all seriousness mums exige is beta car!

Driving on a track is not important at all, however I cant see a TV show anytime soon where they go thrashing the latest hot hatch round Mc donalds car park or down your local dual carrigeway.

We can only discuss the information we are presented with.

corners and braking the clio will excel in! but grunt of corsa and i expect fuel economy of corsa would be beta!

you average corsa vxr driver is not interested in track so dont see the problem. Most people dont buy a car to get an amazing ring time to post about on net. Some people just dont care. So handling on a b and a road blast they are very good. You lot need to stop pretending you are professional racing drivers. You are not. This is corsa sport.
