If they didn't change the pads, I'd sue.
They endangered your life.

Whats to prove they are the pads from when he first drove the car in or just an old set he's chucked in to get a new set of pads for free?

I'd be pissed off, but think few people taking it a bit to far. I'd go back there, ask to speak to who ever is manager, explain your situation, if he's a bellend, tell him that you wont be using them again. I don't use 'bigger' garages as when i have done in the past, they tend to do a monkey job!

Exactly, I'm sure that if you spoke to them reasonably they would rectify the problem. It sounds like a genuine mistake to me...

When work is done at a garage they usually take your milage so they will know if its done 6000 miles in a week.

It was the owner of the garage who I spoke to about the squealing... he looked and went 'hmm there's your problem - you have no rear pads left'.

I said 'but I dropped in my car a few weeks ago to get new brakes' ... then we had a look at the receipt together and saw it did say new rear pads.

... He just said 'Hmm, unusual for them to wear that fast'. i.e. DID NOT OFFER ME A SOLUTION.

if it is a bnig garage aswell.... they aint going to mug you off over the sake of some brake pads.... maybe if it was some bloke on his own, working on cars in a shed. Go back, if you aint happy, tell him you want to take it further. Worth going back, chances are the bloke you went back and spoke to, didnt have a clue whats going on

So you just left the situation at that? Your loss then.

By paying the bill, you have accepted the work has been done. After you sign a log book, you have signed to see you are happy with what your buying, after that, your on your own. I'll say it again. Why should they change the pads? Its his word against theirs. They could quite easily say he has changed the pads since it left their garage. Its been 4 weeks already, not just a few hours.

That's a load of bollocks, you've paid the bill in good faith expecting that the work has been done. Typical motor trade bullshit that, customers aren't expected to go and inspect that work has been don to a standard, a large majority of motorists wouldn't even have the technical ability to inspect work carried out on their vehicles. Plus, who in fucks name would go pay for a set of brake pads, then go home and change them for some old ones to get a new set.

That way you have 2 sets of brake pads for the price of one

I'm just giving a perfect example of what they can do.

There are two ways of thinking this through too. You've paid for work to be done, it hasn't been done. Garage rectifies situation. You've paid for work to be done, the brake pads are shot after very little time and very few miles. Brake pads are faulty and aren't fit for purpose. Garage rectifies problem and then needs to sort out issue through suppliers.

Great, definitely worth the time and effort for a set of pads that are worth the grand sum of fuck all.

I thought ... fuck it, the guy clearly is not going to be helpful / admit one of his workers cocked up (although I suspect he knew) and just thought 'ok, I'll take my business else where'.
