E36 might be worth a look but 4.5k is a lot for that one, spec or otherwise. Not sure where the claimed 5k has gone on parts there?

Ian, your eBay bargain GSi makes me want a track car so much I have absolutely no money for one though

Edit for something useful: The E30 looks awesome imo, and on track Phwoar. For example:

It doesn't have to be expensive, that car stands me just short of 20 Dominos orders. And I'm thinner now.

When you put it like that

Another thing is I have nowhere to put it Mine and mum's cars go on the drive, we gravelled part of the garden for dad's car. The garage is full of junk/white goods/lawnmowers

How does it run now btw? Done a water change yet?

IF you do go back to FWD I wouldnt get a 172. Id get a 106/saxo as it would be cheaper to mod to your needs and parts are cheaper/easier to work on.

As for RWD why not just another MX, turbo one

I don't think it's worth thinking about the track day challenge series till you can actually afford it.

e.g. what if you smash up the car you're using (which is also your daily driver).

Buy another MX5, 3k will get you one with some form of forced induction.

Failing that, S13 or S14 200sx would work.

Or a Volvo 340 with a Clio 16v engine in it, with a blower, that'll leave you about 2k left to spend on a runabout.

Old friend has an E30 with an M3 engine in it and E30 sport lsd.

Revs like a bike and goes like shit off a shiney shovel.

BUT,he reckons it would be shite on track.Constantly wants to go side-on,even in a straight line.Says it would be fun on track, but not fast.

That integras pretty cheap, if I was buying it for sheer abuse I wouldnt be all that bothered by that mileage. Wonder if it would hold its own against a 172. Not sure about the Jap turbos, especially after Ashs horror stories.
