A valid defence takes the following;
- Emergency services on route to an incident
- Public - medical emergency "can" be used as a defence, however this is a grey area, and can be open for discussion at court as whether it was proportionate.

Not a vaild defence - as you will see from my previous post, the police only need to "prove" that reasonable grounds have been made to identify the driver, and that the notice was posted within the specified time, this does not have to be via recorded delivery, just a signature in a book (usually your local ticket office) that the NIP has been posted. That is the only obligation of the police in this instance.
