If it kept reacting even after you sanded it, I'd say that it was full of silicone.
Places like that on dashboards always end up full of it.
You will be able to see it on the corners of the LCD Displays on the mfd.
Just give it a good wipe with some panel wipe and go for it again, Should work for you this time!

The van is not used for work yet as i am not a qualified electrician.I wont be qualified for 2 years yet so I will use this as my daily drive,when im qualified i will be looking for something like a vivaro
