That's not a bad shout actually. Would feel a bit less risky than an 02 plate 330ci too, are they quite relaible the 1 series (and not too costly to maintain)?
Not keen on that shape Ibiza John and defo not looking for a FRP
When i did some research i didnt see to many horror stories; and as for running they are more than a ford for parts servicing etc but if you go to inidi then then megga bucks!
If it was big enough for the dog and baby i would have kept it over my 325i sport Touring as was IMO a complete car for everyday use. was getting mid to late 40's MPG aswell which is always good. Re-mapped i think they see near 190BHP and like you say a nice set of wheels (OEM M-sport in my opinion) and you will have a good car.

That's positive, i've only ever hear good things about 1 series (admitedly most of that is from the lad on here who's just bought the audi ) but yeah I wouldn't be adverse to decent MPG if it went ok. I'd be after the wheels they have on the business edition 3 series.
Possibly try and see a few.

My 323 would struggle to get the mid 30's.
Dad had 40 average once on a run in his 325 but he drives like a OAP, 60mph on the M-way kinda thing.

I suppose I could sell mine and my families and friends camera's and mobile phones (with camera's) to fund that

I've got plenty of time to decide while I manage to convince the missus that it's a good idea and wait for my christmas bonus The arguement goes that i'm currently driving an old vectra which owes me nothing but it's MOT is due in Apr and I'd prefer to sell it with a few months MOT left and get a few quid back and upgrade (rather than pay for it to get through an MOT and it still be worth peanuts).
But i've narrowed it down to a 1 Series or an A3 I think.

Astra 1.9 CDTI SRI 150ps with tuning box / remap should see it to 190bhp and still return 40-45 mpg

How much are they going for? I thought a sport hatch 1.9 cdti would still be going for more than £5.5k? They are ok but still a bit plasticy.
