Probably...............ah well no point digging up the past.
Onwards
Good way to look at it is i'll have owned an M3, lost about a grand & a half on it in 18 months, then an RS Focus, done 5k miles in it......& only lost hopefully about a grand.
2 cars ticked off which i'd always wanted.
No time like the present for changing your car!!

How robust are the Disco's at going offroad without having to get into changing wheels/tyres & stuff??
Will it get me through a foot of snow & a muddy field on road tyres???
Whats a TD5 freelander like in comparison??

the reason there because its a freelander = SHIT
The disco will go through the stuff your saying easily, just get some AT General Grabber tyres when you next need them, they will be good all round.
the TD5 is a good engine, pretty strong, looking at manual or auto gearboxes?
There not the most reliable vehicles and can cost a fortune if anything goes wrong.

If i had 20k and wanted a summer orientated car i would get an Elise or VX220 and an L200 Warrior. The Defender wouldnt be as diverse as the L200 you would get fed up using the Defender as a daily driver imo.

You'll get a Cayene for cheap, and an S1 Elise for cheap... thats your near 20k
To do it properly will cost a lot more than 20k though
Or look for a 5k Landie Defender 90, and have 15k for a 'scabby' 996 C2 (:S) or an M3, or Elise.... maybe a nice Evo 8+
