He's taking it to an audi garage tomorrow so doubt it'll be cheap. Her excess is 400 mine is 250 so if it is way more than that we'll go through insurance and say I was driving at the time, not going to make a difference to him.

The person who's insurance is paying for the repairs pays the excess. Ie the person who's at fault pays the excess

That's why she's insured, she probably feels back enough anyway. At least you put her on so she's covered for most of it.

I didn't think you would lose your no claims as it's not you that's claiming? That's what my insurance said about my Dad having 9 years protected NCB and me being a named driver.

Any insurance company I've dealt with it's the policy holder that loses it.

Protected no claims doesn't cost that much more TBH. End of lesson.

Mine was free, got them to match a quote online without ticking the extras and then when they adjusted my old policy i said oh and are all my extras still covered and he said yes whilst clicking away. Got the paperwork through and oh look £180 cheaper and all the extras added on aswell

It can be, depends on other factors same as the rest of insurance.

Also with protected no claims, I'm thinking it's a bit of a con but I've not got around to testing the theory yet.

With protected no claims you could have had a crash but still have the no claims, non protected you've (probably) not crashed.

I get asked if my NCB is protected or not, suggesting they want to know for a reason.

If you have 7 years non protected no claims you haven't crashed for 7 years.

If you have 7 years protected no claims you could have crashed at some point in the 7 years.

My theory is that if you have non protected no claims the policy will be cheaper.

I've not tested this yet though.

Your no claims certificate doesnt state whether it was protected or not though does it? Ive never actually had a physical certificate.

I'd have to check but proably, it's just your renewal quote normally.

The only thing that made me think about it was an insurance company asking me on the phone.

Good point John but remember you will have had to declare your accidents for the last 5years or whatever so they would already know??

Some companies are 5, most are 3, so potentially you could have had a crash 3 years ago but still 7 years no claims.

I may be talking rubbish, they don't normally ask for no reason though.
