you sure they are high tax

for any unsure buyers are worried about running costs etc - 6months tax = £128, services average £179.50 and oil consumption isn't as bad as people make out all it is that the rotary engine uses a little squirt to lubricate the apex seals in the engine to stop it sticking it's not a guzzler.

our next door neighbour used to have one and yes the tax is unreal and it uses alot more than a little squirt.

Don't do it John... I had a bit of fun with my mates RX8 a while back (his was standard.. mind had an intake) and there was nothing in it at all (230bhp) one.... oh and if you thought the torque was bad in the civic you're in for a shock when it comes to the RX8... for what they are mate they aren't worth all the extra money (20mpg if you're lucky, more oil consumption and more tax and more insurance etc etc)

rx8's look nice and seem a bargain for what they are, although i've never been in one so can't comment on anything other than aesthetics and stats.

also, PS is higher than BHP.

Very silmular power delivery to the civic but a bit smoother.

Really good chassis under them

Apart from needing some TLC and been thirsty there is no reason to avoid.

There was a big thread on the civic forum about them. There are quite a few things to check on them otherwise you could get a big bill with the wrong one. So do a bit of research and it should all be fine

Oh dont get me wrong, could be reliable, just text my mate who works for Mazda, he said something about every 3 tanks of fuel you need a litre of RX8 oil which is £45, not sure how true that is?? and if they are not serviced religiously the rotary engines drop to bits and a re-build is about £4k.

Said he sold one to a customer 8 month ago for £10,500, just traded it in last week and got £6,250 for it. Big loss.

exactly lol a guy at work bought one about a year ago now id say and he loves it........ fact is aswell its been designed from the floor up to be a sports coupe........ civic is a hot hatch = different things.....

his aint that much worse than my astra gsi on fuel and dont use as much oil as everybody had told him it would, full service the other week cost cost him about 350quid.... im not saying they are perfect but he seems to really like it and dont seem disapointed one year on..

only thing he found when buying one is alot had been mis-treated and were over-priced for the condition, wheels bubble up and generally dont like the environment lol so re-furbish may be in order for most.... apart from that i cant see much wrong with his

the depreciation is still relatively small if you consider a 5 year old 50k+ m3 ca be had for what 15k lol

ive test driven the 192 and 231 versions, gearbox ok but engien is gutless feeling - went straight from my s2k which is meant to be similar perfomrance wise and the rx-8 just felt dead (231 version). you also cant start the car and stop it, needs to be warmed up of excess fuel floods the rotors ( can be removed with ggetting engine to over 4k revs and turning off engine) this was what the salesman told me, so I was abit put off.

Decent looking, will be reliable if looked after. oil is used to lube the rotors I believe so will need reegular top ups.

Cheap now because lots of people get put off wtih them, one of my mates has one and loves it whilst I didnt get on with driving one.

Drive one and see waht you think!
