TBH, im not really looking for either a clio or CTR, never liked VTEC - its a good idea, poorly implemented imo.
I am going to calm down my driving style on the roads after my accident now, having something like a clio would only provoke me to carry on how I was

I owned one and wasn't impressed.
John seems to base a lot of his opinions on having sat in one or driven by one etc though.

Poorly implemented? A ctr is a bawhair faster than a 182 btw, not worth raving over!

I want something thats fairly quick (around 180bhp would probably be ok)
Max of 3.5k
Look alright
now here is the 2 difficult ones,
Comfy but still handle
and not silly on insurance (so no imports, scoobies, etc)
At the moment I am thinking of a TT (with usual coilovers, poly bushes and ARB's to sort handling out), as the early 180bhp's are dropping to around 3k, but what alternatives are there?

95% of what you have posted on this forum is about how good the pd130 is, and now you're getting a petrol??!?!?!

I tell people the facts about VW PD engines, a lot of people knock them before they have experienced them.
And there's nothing in that list to exclude a diesel, but for the money, I won't find a good one

And your point is? As I said in the last post, there won't be many decent diesels for less than 3k.
I will probably get another in the future, when I can throw the money at it in one go, but cos of the crash I had, the Ibiza is going and I fancy something different for a bit

For the purposes outlined you will want a car with cruise especially if going accross Europe.
Did it in an Astra Coupe and got back ache did 70k miles in a 182 and not once did I get back ache
One thing thought the Clio needs a 6th gear and its quite cosy and if you are used to VAG quality plastic you probably wont like it!

So you want something quick, petrol and around 180 bhp but you dont want a clio or ctr because you want to calm your driving down. The clio 182 in standard form is less than 180 bhp for a start
