Basically what has happened so far is everyone now has access to Sony's private keys which mean any eboot's (imagine exe files on pc) can be decrypted and re-encypted and the ps3 will think they are real meaning anyone now can make an application e.g. ftp server, emulators, iso loaders and sign them with the keys and all consoles will think they are perfectly legit sony applications.

I think their claiming that it hasn't taken them 4 years as they've only recently starting made efforts to crack the security.

Yeah they actually only started working on it when Sony removed otheros support, so took them about 12 months.

Just installed the Geohot 3.55 CFW, installed easy enough. Installed a few packages Multiman and some emu's so far, missed not having it on my new ps3.

Allows running of homebrewed (read, people in bedrooms knocking up applications) programs/apps. It also looks like a few people have managed to backup games to HDD and get them working.
