Ive heard of a "slush" box(auto),but never a banana box.
I had a friend who put shit in his gearbox, now thinks he has a 'dog box.
the only car with a dog-leg gearbox was the Mercedes 190E Cosworth. Look it up.

The old Stagecoach buses, the tiny wee 1s that used to be called "buzz buses" had a dog leg box.I had a shot of 1 once.

Take away the vice versa part and yeah, that's it. First is down at the bottom, then 2nd where third is etc. It's because racing drivers rarely used first, and the switch from 3rd to 4th is shorter than first to second, so by designing it in the dog leg set up would be quicker changes in those gears.

i dont get it
i thought the shift from 1st to 2nd is the same as 3rd to 4th?
and they needed the 2nd to 3rd to be quicker , so hence why it was 2nd to be in 3rd gear position, and 3rd to be in 4th ?

Bear in mind the diff pin usually shears as well and the gear set that its jumping out of will need doing.

Diffs about £600 isn't it, and I think it's normally somewhere around £150-£200 to fit. No jumping out of gear in mine just a very slight whine

As above, I was making a comparison with a conventional box, not meaning they use 3rd and 4th most

Loads of cars had them - 'Rarri Testarossa and 308; 914 and some 911's. I think the 2CV had a dog-leg as well I'm almost sure there was a Vaux that had a dog-leg, no idea what the car was though.....
