Not strictly true, they have a duty to check the road every x amount of days/weeks/months and there is no way that has creeped up over night, you can even get access to the details of when the road was last inspected etc if they make it hard to claim...

That streetview image is from 2010 at the latest and you can clearly see it's starting.

Glasgow and the surrounding area is totally fucked on the road front. Rattled one today on the kingston bridge.

There was the council worker in charge of sorting the potholes in Sheffield on the radio a few weeks back, he said the funding they get from the government is no where near enough to do all the potholes in the city so they only do the ones on the main roads. He said for the rest, its cheaper to pay the compensation than it is to fix them all and this winter they've had over 50,000 claims

John,

I got a claim in against GCC for one in Possil. Exploded a tyre, flat spotted and cracked the rim and the force of the impact (going 25-30mph) made the fuel cut off cut in thinkin the car was in a crash

You need to badger the life out them, my claims been in since November and is gettin passed from office to office. Supposed to be getting a call back off the wankers on Monday... (chances of that are pretty slim)

Edited to add > my one was visible on street view, has been repaired after i hit it, and is now back even bigger. I've takine screen dumps which i submitted with my claim and have also taken further shots of it opening back up after their so called repair done over December.

Something I've always thought about in these cases is what if the council claim that there's no proof that it happened on that pot hole? I could go out today and go up a kerb at 30mph, then go find a pot hole and claim that it happened there.

Point being that surely the council could pick and choose which claims they want to pay and which ones they don't.

Any progress John?

I reported the pothole via the online form yesterday.

Waiting to get a quote for the tyre etc tomorrow before I fill any forms in.

I was driving through Glasgow near the uni last week and was shocked at how bad the roads are there in places, for a major road through a city, fair enough it gets more use so it is bound to be worse but I'm really surprised that none of my tyres burst or nothing broke, by far the worst I've come across recently.

I gave up reporting potholes, they never bloody get done. The whole road leading into mine is ridiculous, but I can only dream of that ever being completely relaid. In the mean time I will continue to weave down the road avoiding them and even straddling the middle of the road at some points and would argue my point to any copper who decided to pull me. They even make an awful bang in my Berlingo which is on boat like suspension ffs

Bottom of my road was beyond a joke after the recent snow, it was literally impossible to go down it without dropping down a massive pot hole so I had to choose the nicest one to drop down... It took them a good month to do anything about them and even now they've just chucked some tarmac at it which is so uneven that it's practically just as bad anyway. The main problem it caused was all the tarmac that cracked away was being spread over the road so you would drive down and hear constant stones smacking the bottom of your car, you just couldn't follow anyone as it was like a rally circuit FFS...
