tenner is the going rate, regardless of whether its out of the way
when i worked in the call centre i used to go out of my way 2 miles to pick up a work mate. he used to pay a tenner a week.
then 2 more from his road started
so i was picking 3 work mates up who all lived on the same road
he said since he was happy to pay a tenner then so should they. so i was getting 30 a week.... SCORE
i went to the match on sat and bought an all day bus pass for sunderland area, cost £5.20 - consider that

Fella gave me the odd lift home from work a few years ago, like less than 10% of the time, only if I broke down or something, and he was basically going my way. He asked me for money at one point and I thought it was quite strange to be honest.
If someone was a friend and I was going their way I would give them a lift for free and not even consider whether they were going to offer me money or not. Normally on my way home from college I go out og my way for at least one person and cost is never considered by me or my passenger.
