Simples. But hard
paint the whole thing the colour you want the lettering or just the lettering area. Lacquer. Bake
rub down(scotch is fine)
apply base coat. Let it dry or bake it.
Carefully use a degreasing cloth (lint free) with either waterbased degreaser or thinner depending on the paint and wash off as much as possible on the lettering. Finally sand it with 800 on a block or DA to get the edges as crisp as poss. Obviously don't break through the original colour (red in this case) the lacquer helps prevent this.
Then blow it off and finish with a tak off with a tak rag then lacquer.
If you wanted different colours on different letters. Mask them up and spray the different colours to start with then do the same thing.
I wasn't taught this just found it to be the most productive and gives the best results.

I cant remember how i did mine, tried a few different ways, and some didnt work. That sounds like a good enough way though, time consuming, but the end product shows its worth it!!

When do i start at your place Tom?

See if you can get a better overall finish, especially on the lettering.

That looks awesome. Just as a rough figure how much to spray a rocker cover in basic colours?

when you take the arches off the 106 to paint the wings instead of just masking them up

they didn't need to come off though only flicked a bit into wings, then lacquered and de masked so it didn't build up an edge.

Thats why I like Tom, attention to detail with regards to removing the arches even if it was a quick job.
