These days that argument doesn't pass. You're paying for the amount of energy that's in the fuel rather than how much it costs to produce. Fucking annoying

I'm going to get in with this before Tom does:

everybody should just drive ///M3's then you wouldn't have to worry about the price of diesel

Fuel prices ful lstop are a fucking joke, and it's going to get worse, a lot worse. I got just under 60 miles to a tenner yesterday in a 1.6 Focus it's depressing.

Yeah was a trackday admittedly but it's not hard to get 150 miles to a tank on the road. Well I don't have a mortgage or anything, still live at home, do it whilst you can and all that. I don't understand how people have Evo's and a house on a normal job.

Diesel is priced higher in this country because the vast majority is imported. As it costs nearly the lowest of all the fuels to make it would be much cheaper.
Just need more refineries in the uk.

True! He probably loses more in depreciation than I spend on fuel, then again maybe not

The only good thing to come out of the hike in fuel prices is people selling cars dirt cheap... but the goverment have tryed squeezing a bit of cash out of that too by giving out fines to anyone who buys them and doesnt sorn them

That's the only reason I justify it is because it's basically just a weekend toy. Got a company van for the week & a Berlingo if I lose that. I'd never use my car for work it would cost too much

i'm hoping it will make the roads less busy, far too many people driving around willy nilly that aren't actually into cars.

also i would like to see people going back to smaller cars, my mum didn't need a people carrier for 3 three kids, people have them now with 1 kid or even no kids. Same with big 4x4's.

might also mean less wear and tear on the roads.

all in all its a good thing, am sure if its really a struggle for people they can easily find a way around it

but you can spend hundreds of pounds a month just to own a brand new BMW, which no offence isn't anyones dream car.

i don't really know your job circumstances, it may be that you need a brand new car for that, although i thought you had a company car.

not picking an arguement, just keeping it real

Jim - Since when I have i said its a dream car and the thread was not referenced to any particular car

All I was stating was that I dont know how people run evo's scoobys, Focus St's etc with petrol prices the way that they are

Does it really matter whether the car is 1 day old or 11 years old

and my circumstances are none of your business TBH

Some people can afford the petrol as they might of sacrificed brand newnesss and a finance deal for an older and more desirable car.

I'm not saying you think the BMW is a dream car, but i don't think i'd be wrong to say its costing you a fair bit each month and its quite boring in terms of enthusiast following.

You'd have to earning well to be able to have a 1 day old scooby and afford to run it everyday.

you wouldn't have to be so loaded to own a 10yr old one and run it everyday, as your monthly car bills are repairs and petrol, not finance for a joyous moment that lasts a short while with a new car before its the same old daily drive that your still paying back 3-5yrs later.

some months my cars cost me nothing but the petrol
