Is that black box where the filter runs to the top cover for the throttle body?

Maybe he should remove the cover and have a nose round the TB to see if any air is being sucked in from there? Which would result in less air being drawn in from the filter, hence less noise.

I was going by point 17:

"17. If you car is equipped with the battery cover, pull off the drain pipe from it

If you’re mounting a Direct Induction Kit (K&N 57i, or equivalent) and you don’t need the air-box hardware anymore either, so you can take out the air-box mounting plate too:"

Looks ok, and that black cover is just for the throttle body i presume. Is the filter a good enough fit onto the hose and no leaks? Was the filter new and not old and choked and needing a clean?

The Pipercross wasn't new, the other two cones I've tried were.
Yeah, the filters on there as it should be and clips are as tight as I can get them.

Lets be realistic here, the guy is struggling to fit an air filter.. I think TB's would be a big ask.

Erm... I wasn't trying to remove it. Theres a split in that bit thats in the pics that shouldn't be there!
When you rev the engine, you can hear the air around that bit. I'd imagine that is supposed to be air tight and its clearly not.

If theres an air leak which looks like thats the problem, I would've thought that'd make a big difference to the sound coz theres not much air by the looks it it being sucked thru the filter, its all going thru that split in the plastic.

Thats the intention. Just wish I noticed it sooner as thats been letting unfiltered air into the throttlebody.

My old 206 had one of those crappy foam filters on it when I bought it, got changed after it partially melted on a track day at Croft

Looking at the pics they look to be fitted the same, mine made a hell of a racket for what it was.
