I had a Golf S TDi last year, and I don't remember there being one. Cos I would thought it'd be like the Corsa where it stays on until you turn the ignition and the engine has started when it turns off. I never had a light either, but could be cos my unit was buggered. Speedo was irratic.

BAFFLED!

i have disconnected my air flow meter - which has resulted in an error code on the OBD - MAF failure. BUT the engine light still didnt come on !

done the same with my friends - same thing happened.

the LED on the speedo PCB looks intact and has been fiddled with. neither has it been blanked off or obstructed.

confused.

Does your EPC light come on? Given that th warning lights are surface mount LED's and you have three cars all displaying the same behaviour, I wouldn't be concerned. I would be more concerned if the EPC light came on and stayed on.

If you have/borrow a vagcom cable, you can run an output test on the instrument cluster and test all the warning lights. You could obviously also scan the engine for any faults.

its daft - but MK4 Golf GT TDi's dont have an EML light. still baffles me as to why this is the case

IIRC, on the TDi Ibizas, the glowplug light would come on for faults

I know on petrols, the light won't come on for unconnecting the MAF

The Golf will have a light that comes on for serious faults/limp mode, have a look through the owners book.
