I think I would with a cheap car, say under £2,000 but anything above that, certainly £5,000 or more, I'd want the best example I could find!

Why? Axle/subframe are both bolt off parts, bend an axle, you just unbolt it off, bolt on a new one. No problems.

Wrecks to riches. They did a yellow one, front subframe was bent, ended up with a new front and rear clam iirc, and a repaired door. And that included labour, hence the high price, if you were to buy one and repair it if you worked in the trade, you would do it cheap as chips!!!

I would but one that still needed the work doing on it then I would know what was done exactly and could make sure I was happy with it. Wouldn't buy one that had already been repaired.

i agree with more mainstream cars but cars with fibreglass clams and funky suspension are £££'s to fix to people not in the trade.

Says Cat C 5 years ago, would be 2006, so it would have only been 3 years old, so could just be that it was rather new, ive seen some cars less than a year old, with really minimal damage been written off just cause they are so new.
Had a 09 Polo which was 2 weeks old, with 80 miles on the clock, needed a new quarter panel, bumper and rear light. Insurance wrote it off.

To be honest its not always insurance. Put it this way, if you had just bought a brand new car, and someone crashed into it, you wouldnt want it back would you.
Been a Cat C too that will have had a VIC check (not that they mean fuck all about the repair) and would have had to be re MOT'd.

Thats retarded, the newer a car is, the higher its value will be meaning that theres less chance of it being wrote off. For a car to have been wrote off when its still fairly new would usually mean its had a good enough hit to offset the value of the car.

Not really, doesnt ALWAYS go on cost/value of the car. Age/mileage/cost/condition of car in general.

i do know that if you crash a brand new car then you can get a new one if it's under a certain age, not sure what the terms and conditions are though.

If its your fault you dont have much of an argument, if someone hits you, no matter what the age, you can kick up a fuss and refuse to have the car back. Seen it happen, insurance will pay for you a new car etc, then either write your old one off, or repair it anyway and send it to the auction.

Up to 12 months old a good insurance company will give you a brand new car if you write it off

That's silver 
chassis damage I wouldn't touch as they are glued together to keep tolerances under 0.0000001mm so they handle spot on.
Subframe and front box section are fine asking as chassis is untouched.
Check it over and all is good.

maybe better to pay the extra for one with no accident history then?
this ones 2k more but has exhaust, diffuser and hardtop and no accidents so maybe a better buy?

I was going to say this. Didn't Adam's turbo on here get written off without THAT much damage, but because it was the clam it was fucked? Or am I way off  I'd do it if the repairs were done correctly.
Was originally thought to be not so bad but there was a fair bit of damage when it got pulled apart. Someone bought it along with one that had rear end damage and repaired mine, looked alright but I didn't drive it and not sure what he changed.
