How has it affected you? No pay rise for 2 years
Have you had to make cuts to luxuries? Not yet
Been made redundant? No
Cautious on your spendings? A little.

Generally we are quiet. To start with we were fine but 2 years or so later we are feeling it. Half as much work about. Finding I have a lot of time now where I don't have anything to do where before there wasn't enough hours in the day.

Any building projects related to government have disappeared or been put on the back burner. People just dont seem to be wanting to build stuff. Really hope it picks up soon. I need a pay rise.

Been made redundant? Others were made redundant, so I can work as much overtime as I wish.
Cautious on your spendings? Oh fuck no

Lets have a mass debate

Edit: Oh, and because we are doing well with less workers, we've been given a 3% payrise. Not much, but because we accepted it, it's been backdated to the start of the year, and been given a bonus. Can't argue

Hasnt really affected me to be honest, work has improved & we have jobs lined up till next year.
I personally have had a pay rise and promotion since recession was announced, so all seems well so far

1 - I didn't get a discretionary payrise this year and my council tax & energy bills went up
2 - Nope - been buying more luxuries than ever tbh
3 - Nope
4 - Nope - as per luxuries bit, been spunking money away all over the place

My Energy & Council Tax increases were offset by me becoming single, so now they actually cost me less than they did when they went up.

I was made redundant because the construction firm I worked for went under, mainly due to lack of work and too many staff. I did my own work for about 5 months and then started sub-contracting to a bigger local construction firm who have lots of work on. Technically my take home pay is slightly less but I used to work away for the other firm so got bonuses/travel time etc. Also being self employed and CIS the tax man gives me a nice refund in April(ish).

The building trade has been hit hard, competition for work means rates are pretty stagnant but, to be fair, about 6-7 years ago prices and hourly rates went up at an alarming rate so it had to level at some point.

If you look around though, despite everyone wheeling out the old "times are hard" and "current economic climate" etc, people are still living to a higher standard than they ever have and I'm sure economic growth will return, just like it always has done in the past.

My job was safe.
I was made redundant.
I walked into another job during my redundencey period.
I earn more money now.
My morgage payments are lower.
Fuel costs more.
I still spend the same money as I always have.

How has it affected you? Not at all, had good payrises
Have you had to make cuts to luxuries? No
Been made redundant? No, our business is run as though we are always in recession which means we flourish when it actually happens, picking up orders from our competitors along the way.
Cautious on your spendings? no

Wages have went up, although not enough.
Bought a house (and spent an unbelievable amount of money so far on it)
I buy what I always have which is a lot of shit.

How has it affected you?
Hasn't. Had a pay drop end of 2008, but subsequent rises have totally made up for that.
Bought a flat end of last year.

Have you had to make cuts to luxuries?
In a way, yes, but because I bought my place than for any other reason.

Been made redundant?
No.

Cautious on your spendings?
I always was up until I bought my place, ironically now I don't really care so long as a couple of hundred quid is saved (ie. I don't spunk the lot).

Made redundant, then joined a newly formed company and worked my way up. Best thing to happen tbh.

Usual bad sides though of increased prices on commodities and difficulty getting on the property ladder.

A fair bit.

Lost £5k in value of car I purchased 5seconds before the big crash/panic in 2008. Managed to do ok for a while not really finding business affected.
Job has been threatened a few times. Came close to the bar twice for losing it. Now had a paycut from work and a reduction I business and as I work on commission that means even more loss.
Parents business is struggling due to car industry being shit, spent all my savings keeping them/us afloat.

So now have no nice car, no savings and a shot payed job I hate

Also cant seem to find another job, always 100+ applicants for the ones I have been applying for.

I cleverly set up my business just as it all kicked off (well literally a couple of months before)

Because of the clients I work for in general, the recession hasn't affected me too much tbh - mainly because it hasn't affected my clients too much either. If I was more of a 'normal' valeting company, I think I'd have been screwed within year 1.

Fuel for van gets absorbed within pricing and charging travelling costs where necessary.

Fuel for car gets paid for regardless as I only run it on V Power and it's my 'luxury item' so I will spend the money on it!

Fortunate in some ways that I do live at home again rather than renting with my now ex as that's saved me a fair bit of cash.

House prices and general cost of living restricts me from progressing further!

I got made redundant, went working for another company i hate, got asked to come back on 2k more than i left on and got a company vehicle. I then asked more more money so got a total of 5k more rise plus a motor.

The company is now doing very well and i work my arse off. I'm going to ask for more monies that i was promised months back.

Basically i want to move out the apartment i'm living in now for personal reasons and move closer to work. The 90 mile commute is also starting to take it's tow.
