standard vxr for standard gti?

vxr has more bhp but is down on torque = real world nothing in it and every experience of a vxr i've had has proven this to be the case

handling counts for more on a track, different kettle of fish for racing about on the roads, or drag strip.

How many people in reality use them on track?

None probably, a magazine saying it's faster round a track than whatever other car is completely useless to 90% of people, I could get to asda quicker in my vectra than an F1 car.

TBH, a car that feels faster than it really is, is good for the road.

PD130's are good for that, feel absolutely rapid when you get one, but in reality its just normal.

I think you'd be surprised if you went head to head with a VXR Ollie. The Clio doesn't feel quick, but it is, the VXR will feel quicker due to the stronger pull from the turbo

I went out in my mates MK4 Golf the other day, he's just fitted a GT28 but the map was so smooth it didn't feel quick, except when you looked at the speedo and it was moving faster than the revs! But my car felt quicker but the Golf is much faster

I reckon you just need to learn to drive an N/A car.

Have you been changing gear at 3k rpm??

On the subject of cars "feeling" faster than they are, isn't that the same sort of thing with good handling. Realistically it may only be able to corner at slightly higher speeds than the VXR but it's the feel and eagerness to turn in that sets the Clio apart from other small hot hatches

i am one who prefers handling also. cannot stand driving cars that feel boaty and have shit tyres on.

puma was lethal in the wet with the rear stripped and incorrect offset wheels on, couldn't have that combined with 200bhp+, would kill myself.

I'd rather the VXR, better looking, better tuning potential and the handling can't be that much worse... for N/A though hats off to the Clio... it's almost as good as an ep3
