when its non fault did you actually claim through your policy or from a third parties policy? i see this a lot, people putting non fault claims on their policy when they dont have to, a non fault claim would be like if you went out to your car in the morning to find it smashed up from a hit and run and had to claim for the repairs. not you fault but you claimed on your own policy
i was in a head on collision, i dealt with my own insurance company but all costs were paid from the other guys insurance

It is my understanding that the example you give above is for a fault claim! Yes it may not have been your fault, but as you have claimed and the costs can't be subrogated to another insurer it goes down as fault.

Same with mine; car was parked on my ex's drive which is adjacent but not directly opposite a T junction. Some one came down in the snow, locked up, went over the kerb, over the road, up the kerb on the other side, over the pavement, down the drive and into the back of my car. I was in bed, asleep and no blame could ever be attributed to me in those circumstances but mine went up to.
He admitted liability, my insurance company was included. My insurance has gone up by 100% this year from approx £400 to £800 - penalising someone in the above circumstances is ridiculous!!
To make matters worse, I added my new missus to my car at a cost of £11.38 for the 10months remaining, She added me to hers for £35 for 2 months. Granted there may be a discrepancy with admin fees but still its ridiculous!!!

no its non fault, because its not your fault. its not a trick question.
the only claims you have to declare are ones where your insurer has paid you out and not recovered in full from someone else.

Are you sure about that? Insurers ask ' Have you had an accident in the past 3 years whether at fault or not?'
They don't ask 'Have you had an accident in the last 3 years where all of the costs were not recovered from the 3rd parties insurer?'.
Also, you contradict yourself, in the example you give of a hit and run, all of the costs would have to be paid out by your own insurer dispite you not being at fault and would therefore have to be declared on your policy.

Location seems to be playing a massive role in premiums atm.. Try insuring car at parents address or a friends?

Add your mum as a named driver. Usually knocks £300+ off mine.

I also think they are concentrating more on the statistical odds of a particular age group claiming on a particular car regardless of the insurance grouping.. For example it was almost twice as much for my missus to be insured on a 1.2 Punto than a 1.8 Astra bertone soft-top?

try changing your annual mileage to 9,999 miles instead of 10,000
it might take it down a notch to the previous mileage band
