I'm too scared of doing that, always unplug it. You're lucky you didn't lose fingers, must have been fairly scary.

Well tbh honest after really wanting to get my xe running this weekend I made quite a few 'school boy' errors lol.
1.tried starting it with ecu unplugged ( sportyboy lol )
2.tried starting with out earthing fuel rail.
3.killed my battery after jump leading off another car and putting live and earth wrong way round ( it was dark n I was tired lol)
4.got my my new cv joint and fitted it all back on, lowered my car back down, took it for a drive and realised when my steering wheel started to shake like a fucker and pulled over I noticed my wheel bolts hanging out ha
Needless to say I will never rush anything again lol.
Don't laugh to much

Could of very easily. It was no where near as bad as it could of been. Quick bandage and back to it.

Put some engine cleaner in my old ex corsa. Drained the oil to find that the tub wasn't big enough to take all the oil and it over flowed all over my mums driveway. Couldnt grab another bucket as had me and brother in stitches for a while.
A friend knocked him self out losening wheel bolts when It slipped and hit his chin on the wing and knocked him out. He still gets the piss ripped out of him for it.

fitted alloys when I was about 18 to my Escort diesel estate.
Didnt even think about alloy wheel bolts, just used normal ones.
drove out the road and three wheels came off.
Never felt so stupid.

Ian just reminded me of some;
-Set fire to myself while grinding
-hit finger with chuck of a DA sander
-burnt finger from melted sealer whilst welding
-crushed finger a door shut when tightening hinges (heard the nail snap in half and go crunch)
-best was knocking over some de-greaser with my foot wilst welding on my back under a pickup truck, then watch a weld spark fly into the liquid on the floor which had silently run under the truck next to me, the resulting flame traveling underneath towards me soon made me shit myself and scramble out from under the truck lol
cracked the screen of my corsa right down the middle when i got it out of storage to put back in beacuse i carried it holding the sides instead of carrying it in the middle

Ha I used to be a mechanic.
Left wheel bolts lose on my own cars, Even my boss did it on his own car.
Forgot to put a sump plug back in after quickly lowering the car to get something out of it.
Left gearbox bolt lose on one of my old cars, I didn't realize until I started taking the gearbox out to replace it. Lose bolt was cause of it not going into gear
I've done the trying to start a car with things unplugged, Either ECU, Coilpack or fuel pump.
When I converted my corsa from 1400 to 1600 I couldn't work out why it didn't run right after converting, Then realised I hadn't switched to the 1600 ecu.
Recently at my new job, cutting a bumper, knife slipped and left a inch long scar on my hand. Wiring up towbar electrics I put the wires into the relay the wrong way around and couldn't figure out why the sidelights were flashing insted of the indicators Spent ages messing around with the earth and even checked all the trailer board I was using.
Yeah I've made quite a few mistakes, These are just the ones I can remember.

I've seen that done before, the lad was still insisting he'd put the plug back in but forgot to tighten it up, even after we found the dry sump plug sat on the ramp nowhere near the 8 litres of oil that'd just gone straight through a Shogun engine
Another one of mine that I just remembered, not a bad one but servicing a car when I used to work at Suzuki, with each service you got a bottle of screenwash and a bottle of fuel system cleaner, both the same style bottle, picked up the wrong one and put the whole bottle of screenwash in the petrol tank
