22K and the full 1oz ones are about £1150ish, just been passed one along with a 1/10th one.
1 full sovereign and 2 halfs. Glad I mentioned it to my mum now. She said I can go 50/50 on what I get

Investors tend to buy gold when the economy is going tits up as it's seen as a safe asset with less volatile price fluctuations. This obviously increases demand which increases the price.

It's a tradeable commodity, anyone who thinks it's going to appreciate relative to the stuff they're using to buy it.

Funny this should come up, I spoke to my nan today who got her old broken gold bits (chains, bracelets etc) and got £500 and they offered her £700 for the bracelet she had on which had sat in the cupboard for years until she saw it again today. She was happy

Jay you are a legend for posting about this.

Googled high and low, and the best place, and seems to be the safest is hatton garden metals.

Post via special delivery on thurs, they receive it friday, and will pay out on friday afternoon via faster payments.

60g in total = £748!!!

Fucking result!!

Money came about as a representative of gold/commodities, which you could then redeem at banks etc instead of carrying it all with you.

However as is done today the banks issued more than was physically available.

As has already been said gold/diamonds etc are seen as a better investment than money/currency.

If you have golf you're better off keeping it imo, due to the reasons pointed out.

Gold is worthless.

Only seen as a good investiment when currencies are failing, but even then I don't see the point.

I must find out how much the ring I got for my 21st is worth. I wouldn't ever sell it but it'd be interesting to know. Platinum band with princess cut diamond but I have absolutely no idea about the size of diamond etc etc.

To a Cash Generators store. Could have got a slighty better rate online but couldn't be arsed posting it out and after reading a few horror stories about various online companies, peferred the cash in my hand.

I swear it all fitted in a small bracelet beaverbrooks box. It was only one decent chain and bracelet. The rest was broken 9ct tat, broken earings, coin mounts etc... The best things were a few gold coins, sovereigns. Certainly got more than what I originally paid for my items. To think over the years the old 9ct shit people have threw out because it was dated or broken.

Quite a naive comment for a smart man.

The price continued climbing through the boom period.
