How much do the likes of arsenal and man city get per year from ground sponsorship? We only get £1.2M for the Reebok. I can understand a new ground getting sponsorship but not one that has had it's name for over a hundred years!

We only got £100m for 15 years naming rights to the stadium and c.£30m for 7/8 years of shirt sponsorship as we were desperate for the cash

Isn't Sports Direct owned by Mike Ashley?

i.e. He's using the Football club to boost his other companies which would explain why they got no payment

History and heritage in football are massive, this isnt the NFL, nor is it some concrete new bowl crap stadium, its one of the best stadiums Britain has, its steeped in history.

So I cant believe some Newcastle fans are genuinely in favour of this. Selling years and years of history down the tyne for what? £8m? Whats that these days? A Gael Clichy? Thats if it actually does get reinvested in the playing side.

I hope for all those for the change that it gets bought by the Black Cat firework company.

Newcastle Council's statement on this:

Too romantic for the modern age.

If it were the case that history and heritage were 'massive' every club in the whole of the English league structure wouldn't be ruining their history by plastering brand names all over there strips for a start.

In fact re-branding a stadium for a set duration is the lesser of the 2 evils.
