Well I did it on the windows calculator and it says 1, so I'll accept that. If there was brackets then it'd be 41 I agree.

That's because when you do it on a calculator like that, it does 40 + 40, then stores 80, then multiplies 80 by 0 and stores 0, then adds 1.
Simple calculators like that aren't clever enough to do BODMAS.

If you wrote this into code it would equal 41.
It does multiplication first, then additions.
so 40 + (40x0) + 1 = 41.
However, if the person is literally typing each instruction into a calculator one at a time, e.g. 40 + 40 = 80, then 80x0 = 0, then + 1 = 1.
However, this is wrong, you broke the sum down, the sum as a whole will equal 41.

If you were doing it in your head and weren't a g33k you would do it the windows calculator way.

Yeah, but when you did it on windows calculator you did 3 separate sums.
You did,
40 + 40 = 80
80x0 = 0
0 + 1 = 1
(that's how typing it into windows calculator would have worked).
So you did, (40 + 40) x 0 + 1, that's not the question.
The question is 40 + 40 x 0 + 1, which can infer 40 + (40x0) + 1 as multiplication is done first.
