I agree. For 10 years, I've worked for the local council, in various schools (ICT support and then management). Only recently have I moved over to working for a company. I don't like it. It's full of yuppies suck-ups and ass kissers. Back stabbing and bitching happens on a daily basis, plus, the culture of blame is out of this world. Of course, this might be just my company, but...I doubt it.

I contract to some mid sized companies, it is embarrasing sometimes in meetings watching the obvious sycophanting suck ups

This is my problem, I know if I conform I'll do well but half the time I don't believe in the decisions they make and wouldn't feel right going along with them.

then you will get no where, may as well be an arse licker if you can do it, someone will make the silly decisions, it may as well be you, because otherwise as a worker you wont make the decisions but you will have to put up with them

Totally agree with Matt.

I plateaued in my job because I wasn't liked, and I wasn't liked because I didn't always say the right things.

And if anyone doesn't believe it, I actually got it as interview feedback, didn't smile enough.

Working with people you didn't respect was a lot of that.

I'd rather get nowhere than stand up for things I don't believe in and have to live with myself.

I beleive i got where i am from not being an arse licker. I argue with people and do what i can to piss them off if they try to argue against me. I am also very hard working though.

Had the maintenance foreman make a formal complaint about me because he thought i was bringing in excessive amounts of tooling requests. He got told to do what ever i asked for! Then every bit of tooling we needed i signed for it to piss him off. He eventually went off with stress and quit

I devised a plan of action. Paid for some professional training and a few years later i am now a Project Manager for HP earning what I aimed for.

There are still guys in my old Team moaning and bitching but none of them have taken any action!

PM is an area that I've never taken much notice to until recently. What's the wage like, and what's the job like in terms of stress levels and stability?

ahhh, so your boss is the millionaire.

chicken feet to China is a great way to make money if you have lots of spare feet.

I was being serious in my original post as I read about some guy who did that and became a millionaire.
