Maybe they can teach people how to use lanes properly on the motorway instead of people sitting in the middle lane constantly.

M8, in the dark, in the rain, in someone else's car.
That's when you know you're OK.

There is a point if you're holding traffic by staying there.
And to Steve, Paul and Seth, it's not joining the motorway at low speed that's the issue, trucks do that everyday without issue, it's when the low speed is linked with the lack of confidence that we're talking about, due to the lack of confidence they panic and are scared to join so end up slowing down further, making it even harder for themselves. In reality they simply need to MTFU

They could do it on a simulator, just so people understand the lane system.
Scared people are probably less of a danger then over confident people
I've never been on the motorway in all my 5 years drving

Should be a minimum speed limit in good conditions anyone that gets overtaken by a truck should.be banned. Also trucks should not be allowed to overtake each other, it winds me up they cause so much traffic doing it.

Is that coming from a scared person then?
I've seen a scared person actually come to a stop at the end of a slip road because they didn't have the confidence to filter in. They then proceeded to try and edge into 70 mph traffic on a busy stretch of motorway which led to others having to brake sharply, change lane suddenly etc. I was amazed how many people managed not to crash, it could easily have turned into a 30+ car pile-up, all because of one person who was scared to drive on the motorway he was joining

Have to disagree with that. Over confidence leads to complacency, which you can get away with most of the time, following someone too close, not adjusting to driving conditions etc can lead to accidents but most of the time they don't.
Being scared means people will perform ridiculous, unpredictable maneuvers which are likely to cause accidents, like Mike mentioned.

ill be doing 70 - 75 in the middle lane, shouldnt be holding anyone up, as the speed limit is 70. if there catching me, then the outside lane is there.
but its all relative, all depends on conditions, traffic level. what car im in. etc

All those people who are worried of motorways, i bet their not worried of going past a school at 35.
Really annoys me people speeding around town, motorways on the other had should be as fast as you like.
N.B. Cruise control does not work above 125 on some cars.

So what happened to 70mph dual carriageways? No need for motorway driving, just find one of them and no need to change the laws

Is a simulator really required for the difficult instruction of 'keep left'?

I hate people who 'assign' speeds to lanes, you just need to keep left unless overtaking.
IMO you should pull into the first lane even if your only going to be there for 20secs or so, at 60mph thats still a 1/3rd of a mile! Plenty of people doing 80 could come past in the middle lane in that time.

agreed antnee.
this morning was taking the other half to work on the a13 (3 lanes) in the outside lane as was overtaking.
a young black woman in a bmw come down the slip road, indicated and fought her way through 2 lanes of traffic just to get to the outside lane at about 50mph, without realising i was in the space where she wanted to be doing 70mph, but didn't care anyway as she just swung her car out.
fucking idiots.
