Its obv set up hard for handling in dry which means its fiesty in wet. You'll get used to it. Probs not an ideal family car tho.....but we've said this before!

Ive had a saxo vts and corsa vxr, in the wet corsa was much better but that was probably because id slow down more approaching bends/roundabouts than i would in the saxo, just had to concentrate abit more in the saxo lol

I never hab a problem with both mine and the wife's gti's in the wet. The saxo vts we had was shocking tho.

As opposed to loads of body overhang etc. So basically the wheel is right in the corner of the car. Makes for better handling.

ii find mine good in wet, currently got hancook v12 and they seem good! back flicks out sometimes but it quite predictable so drive accordingly.
think the grip is good, done couple of track days in wet with it!
at brans hatch it was really wet when we got there and running with yoko a048, brother found it hard and span once
but then i didnt get overtaken in the morning session, were few clio 197/200 there and all doing well in damp , one guy chucked slicks on when track was still damp(no dry line) and had loads of grip with it still, i was shocked!

Have to say that I wouldnt buy any other tyres for mine other than the continental s contact things it comes with from the factory...they are expensive .... and in the dry cheaper tyres can be just as good. In the wet however I could not believe the difference when I changed to goodyear ...to the point where I took it into renault to check if everything was ok as I nearly lost it a few times coming into winter. Also my Traction control was suddenly butting in noticebly and killing power like it used to do in the cooper s whoich has never happened before in the clio. I found on the goodyears you couldnt even put the power down under moderate acceleration without it sopinning the wheels up.... I have never had that happen with the continentals
It wasnt that it was over or under stearing dramatically - Its more like it just aquaplanes really easy.
My advice is to stick to the continentals, or take it easy -
I know nothing about how to improve grip in the wet, or the reason the clio can be a handfull- but I find that the car handles so flat and balanced that it sometimes doesnt seem to be conected in the wet, it almost feels like a bit of body roll would help put weight on the tyres and make it grip more - that could be absolute garbage but thats how it feels to me, I cant really describe it any other way. Essentially it feels like there is no give in the car and it just skates over the surface if you push too hard on certain tyres
Anyhow - its much better with the continentals....and I do mean MUCH better. As I say - I would not go through the winter on anything else. I hadnt really noticed any problems in the wet in 5 years of having a clio until I changed the tyres for cheaper ones in september last year
