shes been asked when she plans to start it and how long shes having already?

if she doesnt go back after the mat leave then surely it doesnt matter anyway as the holidays she will have used will have been eccrued before that time whilst she was on leave

You have to inform them when you intend to start leave but definitely don't have to tell them how long
She's entitled to anything from 2/3 weeks legal minimum up to 52 weeks!
As for holiday entitlement I guess it depends how it falls I.e jan to dec or April to march and where in the time the leave falls if that makes sense
Not saying its the case just trying to think why on earth they would reduce her entitlement!

When you employ a woman, and she decides to have kids, do you get any help form the government for her pay while she's away playing mum?

Someone else is going to have to come into the business to do her work while she is off, so you will be paying an extra lot of wages?!

Employers claim back statutory maternity pay by deducting it from their PAYE payments....
They can actually claim for it up front!
