Having seen it I can safely deny that it is not MUCH darker than the old ones.
The realism level however is higher and people (especially Spidey) actually bleed when they get hurt. Which they do a lot (especially Spidey). Spider-Man's movements are much more human like and actually seems to swing on the webs as opposed to Tobey Maguire who appeared to be flying, most of the time.
The story resembles the first Spider-Man a lot and a few details are identical i.e. Peter's bitten, humiliates the school bully Flash, yells at uncle Ben who is then shot by a guy Peter could have stopped, Peter goes to avenge Ben's death, starts dressing up and acting the hero.
The way the story is told however is much, much different and for this it is enjoyable.
A downside is all the story elements that are never followed through. We get a lot of hints regarding Peter's farther, but never anything but teasers. This inconclusiveness really damages the story.

Good will hunting is one of my all time top flims but its damon and williams that steal the show.
Yes have seen the Town, I guess its possibly the best performance i've seen from affleck.
Thing is though if you admitted you were such a affleck lover in the pub you would get instantly filled in because he is the ultimate nimrod all things considered.

Fucking amazing film, loved every second of it. Andrew Garfield is much more bad ass spiderman and I gotta say it's very refreshing compared to Toby maguires cartoon spiderman
