Didn't need it for an extended period of time.
The physical material the bracelet's are made from is crap.
If you had experience of something better you'd realise straight away.

£600/700 watch as a gift?!?
I'd be putting that down as a deposit on a 0% deal for a Tag Carrera TBH

The thing is though John, Its a 'TAG'
Regardless of how poor the quality is (the F1 is a great example of that) people recognise the brand as quality. Hence the cost.
If you want better quality at the same cost you need to veer away from brands with recognition
http://www.watches-of-switzerland.co.uk/brands/oris-watches/artelier/artelier-date
http://www.watches-of-switzerland.co.uk/brands/edox-watches/les-vauberts/les-vauberts-open-heart-automatic
I'd take the open heart one over pretty much any TAG...but I always quite like stuff nobody has heard of

Because a few people think it's good doesn't mean it really is. I'm being serious, they are terrible value for money, unless you want to impress the sort of people who will think it's good.
Spend 3k and you can get a really nice tag.

I suspect then the quality may have changed over the years then, compared to when I bought mine 10 years ago.
Mine certainly dont feel cheap compared to other £800 watches on the market currently, when I have had a look at them.
But I've never seen the need to change it because that reason when comparing.

Fad, get onto blowers jewellers or Hackett watches for a pre owned number.

Serious question but why are they poor quality?
Mine seems pretty weighty, the strap is nice and solid, the face is still scratch free despite a good few years use and apart from BST/GMT I've never found any need to set the time. What more do you want in a watch?
Only problem with mine is I seem to have expanded slightly since I got it and now end up with a divers helmet imprint in my wrist when I wear it.

^^^ Usually my advice too....but perhaps not if it's a Gift. Never again on that front for me.
I'm not 100% sure about Dominic either; nice bloke but he's here to make money after all.

No reason, they just are compared to other things in the price range.
Millions of people obviously like and buy them, if I wanted a watch just to tell the time I'd buy a £50 Casio.
I like the mechanics behind it so look at it from a different perspective.

tag build quality must have seriously dropped off since i got mine, its 6 years old and theres not a scratch on the face and i reckon the strap would come up like new with a clean. worn daily up until about a year ago too

I bought a Tag F1 white face as a daily beater to save wear on my Planet Ocean.
There is such a noticeable difference between them! I would never buy a new one, I picked it up second hand
For £800 I would go for something like this:

I really do like Sinn, I have wanted a U1 for a while!

can you still drop a Tag in a pint and it still work? I think this must be the only way to determine build quality

Got the same tag on my wrist that I've had for a good 8-10 years, lovely watch never leaves my wrist.
Must be shitty quality though, just like John's posts.

3k on a boiler fuck me does it heat the street.
Is watch for you? Would you buy used? You'll get a better watch as they seem to loose a fair bit unless it's some rare fucking rolex etc which at £800 youll prob buy a link .
