My landlord has one! Guy is very well known up and down the UK, over at the ring doing sub 8 minute laps etc... proper petrolhead had plenty of other cars.
Was having a conversation about them as i'd love to scratch the itch, his first reply was... "best car i've owned, ticks all the boxes for road, track, and everyday" Silly value for money his is around 270 odd horse and sounds LOVELY!
As said window regs, and maybe a bit of Renaultsport build quality here and there...
End of the day what do you want for your money? not going to get a capable hatch that quick for that sort of money elsewhere.

Thanks for the information everyone! I'm definitely tempted by them, either a Blue of Liquid Yellow F1 Team. Only thing I was concerned about was the expensive brake parts because they're Brembo But I suppose they don't get changed that often unless you're constantly hard on the brakes.
Think I definitely need to go look at some and drive one.
I'm not a fan of the rear bumper, but K-tec do what I think is a really nice alternative. Has a Clio 197 style diffuser, which would give me another reason to get a custom exhaust for it!

I still quite fancy one of these.
Can see buying a half decent one then prices plummeting like the 17/82's did.
Maybe for a runabout when they are 3k in 6 months.

4k for a 2004/5 one with 50k miles
Definitely not getting one now, would lose a fortune on anything but the cheapest.

I cant see these dropping much below 4k for a long time. The big loss is in the first 5 years you have only got look at the audi tt and honda type r

I really can't see these dropping that much in price now. Think they have took the biggest hit and will stay around the 4k mark for a while.
P2 Clio 172's were about 3k a year ago. They are only sitting at around 2k now.
Coming into my price range, and im tempted to sell the Polo on and buy 1.

182's where £4k when I sold mine.a year ago, so that's nonsense.
172 phase one is about £900. French cars in general depreciate like a lead balloon.

Im talking about a reasonable example with good tax/mot and history. Not 1 with a weeks mot left and in need of work.
182's are still around 3k. P1 172 around 1500 and P2 172 around 2k.
P1 172's are the bargain of them all, but for an extra 500quid you could have a much newer 2002/3 P2 172.

Yes but a true petrolhead man of men wouldnt touch one because they are due to drop a few quid. At least wait until they are giving them away for free before considering.

Love these, don't see what the big deal about deprecation is. Buy one for 5k, nail it round for a couple of years you'll still get at least 3k for it. Seems fine to me

Can't see them depreciating that much anytime soon, they newer ones seem to be quite steady from what I've saw.
I think it's prob the best car for money I've had, practical with that extra oomph when u want it. If I were replacIng this for a more Practical family car think I'd keep this purely for track.

Surely an F1 Team isn't likely to drop in value quite as fast as a standard spec 225 though?
