I had a go at using GarageBand the other night and gave up, that's about as much as I'll ever get to even attempting to DJ.

I'll leave that stuff to my brother-in-law, he's been doing that professionally for like 10 or so years. I'm just a n00b

4D comes with a traktor map already if I'm not mistaken?

Nice setup that though! I was debating an A&H before I went with my 800, decent mixers.

Also now debating a Maschine, but don't think I'll be able to put it in my set enough for the price of it.

I've got it on my phone, also run touchOSC on an iPad, and got lots of programmed buttons, but just don't use it that much :-/ but I think if I had hardware...rather than an unreliable wifi connection, i may use it more.

Wouldn't get the micro I don't think, id do it properly if Im getting one.

yeah it has to be mapped.. the instructions book for the 4d is hard to understand.. lots of big words.. there are tonnes of mapps on the NI website so i used one of these and changed it to suit myself.

once you have this done its just a case loading the mapp if you reinstall or format your computer or whatever.. takes 10 seconds.. i had a big problem for ages in that the mixer kept disconnecting randomly from the laptop.. sometimes after 30 seconds sometimes after 2hrs.. after alot of messing around i found one of the usb ports on my laptop was a fault(found this out by accident when i was taking pictures off my phone.

since then its been perfect.. i use the technics decks and jut 2 decks in traktor sometimesbecause ive had the technics for nearly 20 years.. but really like using 4 decks and the looping functions in traktor and making tunes on the fly.. you can really do some crazy stuff with it.

im self taught from my first setup which was CDJ's got traktor so didnt have to keep burning millions of CD's not so i could push the sync button

fair play if you want to use sync though i say, technology should work for you and it frees you up to use the softwares other features if your not beat matchinng but you can always tell a difference between a real dj and someone who uses automix as you say

TBH i think Traktor looks a lot more professional than VDJ. I think that looks stupid, and can never take anyone thats using it seriously.

I dont really see how traktor is cheating though tbh. Its still doing the same thing, i.e. playing songs. Just how times are moving on. You wouldnt sit at home and watch CH1-4 on a 14" CRT/VCR combo now would you.

lads your not just playing your 4 favourite tracks with traktor... you use it as a sequncer so to speak with your 4 decks as your samplers. i can sample a tiny piece of a track loop it shove it through some effects and filters and produce a new song live.

For the sync to work you have to setup a beatmap for every track anyway so if you cant beat match its going to be off.

you can use it in complete manual scratch mode aswell which is EXACTLY the same as using vinal or cds

carl cox
richie hawitn
rock rader (RIP)

they all use it... just youtube any videos from the dmc world championships.

this is an old video but it gives you some idea...

Virtual dj is very easy to use, traktor is not so easy.
I'm pretty new to dj'ing and sound good on vdj, sound shite on traktor
As soon as I get one of the traktor controllers I'm gonna start learning that and sack off vdj

i use mine in complete manual mode, traktor is one hell of a tool, so indepth it requires a lot of mastering...if its good enough for the likes of dj craze, rafik, shiftee all dmc champs im pretty sure its good enough for me

i think of a lot of people often forget what DJ'ing is all about and turn into snobs if others do it different to them or have different setups that do differnt things to theirs
