we have a VW transporter and a Merc Sprinter. Merc is going well, but the VW is a better van (considering its on its third engine)

Absolute dogshit!
They had 2 at the place i used to work, They got them brand new serviced as and when required by the book and they were in the garage every month! Central locking faults, constant battery drains, new turbo's, a new leak every month, door hinges falling apart and ABS faults galore!
Only van's i'd have is either the Transit or the VW Transporter.

Don't know about reliability but the new Vivaro's we have in work are brilliant to drive.

Newer shape transit IMO.
Vivaro/Trafic/Primastar (all the same van) are bad news from my own experiences.
They are all a Renault underneath and not even a particularly good one. Every one I've seen has cost the owner a fortune.
Transits on contrast don't give anywhere near as much problems.

Ducatos use Fiat engines I think. Exactly same as Peugeot Boxer though. Solid engine, horrible drive but you said you just wanted something reliable so should do the job ok.

for nothing, they're bloody awful things. Total lack of any noticeable build quality, laughably poor reliability, electrics made out of damp spaghetti and the ability to drive you completely insane within a day of driving them.
I'd rather push a flat tyred wheelbarrow full of cement over the Peak District National Park than drive an Iveco ever again.
