Don't regret it one bit.
that thought has also crossed my mind to be honest. I took the '123D' option out of Autotrader and there are some decent spec smaller engined ones out there. Have you driven the 123D aswell? It's all about the extras I can't have a pov spec car now

I did exactly the same, loved the 123d on the test drive, but everyone I went to look at had no options on at all, so I went for a 118d M-Sport with pretty much everything bar IDrive... The 118d has taken some getting used to coming from a Focus ST, but when it's returning 55 mpg on a run to Scotland and back I can't complain!

Have you looked into getting it mapped? I was looking at where to get the 123D mapped before looking at the cars any pics? Have you got the Coupe?
Edit: just seen your avatar. Love the M sport wheels, best ones they do and I love the colour. My missus really like the Coupe but I might persuade her to get the Hatchback as you can get them a bit cheaper still fully loaded

118D wil go to around 175 BHP
the 120 go to aroun 215BHP
I run my mapped 120 for over 3 years and 70k - it was a very good car
However for me the 118D is the pick of the bunch with low road tax and good performance
You have your m3 for thrills
the 3doors look OK in my opinion

It's not a go fast car, more a nice car to drive in, so I am thinking the 123D doesn't matter too much, is the 120D still quick enough to get up to speed easily, I've never owned a Diesel with power. My Astra with 75bhp is depressingly slow
I love the look of that, still struggling to find a decent specced up car on Autotrader. I really want xenons & barely anyone specs them with them aswell. That one I posted is the best spec I've seen so far under 17k

unless your really motoring very litttle difference between 120d and 118d having owned both
120d is faster but for the amount of time you would exploit it its not worth it

also mileage kills BMW's so the more miles your willing to buy the cheaper they become

also get a late 07 or 57 onwards as thats the LCi model with cheaper road tax and better interior
Try and get full leather or your likely to end up with seats like this

Thats what was up with that one I posted, Coupe with massive spec but because it's 90k it's like 3k cheaper than it would be with 50k less miles. She really likes it & so far it's the only one I'd consider
All 118D's seem to be 5 door, very few 3 doors
And I want leather yeah. I'm picky that's the problem when it comes to finding a car

to be honest mate - with the 118D you will find better spec cars
the 123D seem to be all or nothing due to the initial outlay on them

Just seems to be hard finding a 3 door aswell! Suppose it's just waiting for the right car. 118D M Sport with most/all options would make me happy, if it doesn't have poke it has to be a nice place to sit
My astra has no poke, and it's not a nice place to be, but it's a work horse so it's allowed

TBH coming from fairly quick cars, including a mapped Astra CDTI (200bhp) I barely notice the difference in daily driving.
Even after a year I love driving it, not bored at all which is strange for someone who went through cars like hot dinners
Does everything I need it to, smooth, comfortable, cheap to tax, cheap on fuel(as far as fuel goes) cheap on insurance, plenty quick enough for daily driving, reliable, should hold its value well, no rattles(which is a bit strange coming from Vauxhalls and Reanults).
Its the hatch but I put a coupe front on it:

I found mine through a main dealer in the end, 3 years old, 12k miles, just shy of 15k, which is a lot but it's got xenons, leather, professional CD, auto lights/wipers, electric folding mirrors etc. etc. which bump the price up a bit....

I love em, cheers for the pics lads. I'm sure my missus will want one even more when I show her them!
Mase sounds pretty good to be honest, it's got the kind of extras I would want as a minimum. They are the wheels I would want too, but it's not something I would turn a car down over, easy to find a set on eBay etc.
What warranty did you get through BMW despite it being 3 years old? 1 year?

Not the right car i know but as a rough idea my a3 is a 140 bhp and is easily quick enough for your normal driving whilst still having decent amount of poke not to be a slouch, and I've not had slow cars in the past.

Yeah it's good to hear opinions from people who have had fast cars in the past, it's obviously not that much of a downgrade. She has a Cooper S so it will probably be about the same except she'll half the fuel costs.

Also friends mum has a 118d msport with all the toys, he had it for 3 weeks whilst she was abroad and it had plenty of poke

That's one thing I'm loving, getting around 100 miles to a tenner instead of around 40

Yeah got 1 year warrenty with it...
The only thing I don't like about it are the runflat tyres, but as soon as the rears go I'll swop all 4 for some Falkens or similar...
