What are TVR's like for repairing once they break, can you still even get spares???
I just see a whole lot of trouble surrounding them. 
Where as the 996 C4S I see as a safe buy, decent car for decent money, I want it because it looks good, love the rear end and it sounds good.
If I break it or need bits theres several specialists and main dealers within 40 miles.

Agreed, go for it.
Get yourself on the 911uk forum and get some info on them. When i was looking they all seem to have taken out warranties with some porsche specialists and they are certainly worth going for.

I'd hang on for a 996 c4s I've had my eye on them quite a lot recently.
Or wave 20k in front of Tom when he's finished his Porsche lol

There a quit a few specialist around who deal with TVR you can still get plenty of parts.
My dad is on his 4th TVR and drives it all over europe and never has any bother with any of them. he does around 5-6k a year so there well used.
