What was the smell of gas then? Just people thinking they smelt something?

Not arguing it wasn't a bomb btw, as said, its not unlikely in Oldham, or in fairness most large towns/cities

I think if a bomb exploded that was in the same house as me I'd release a bit more than gas!

i might have got my facts slightly wrong this is what i heard

quote:

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Heywood of Greater Manchester police, who is local to Oldham, gave a press conference nearby. He likened the scene to that of the IRA's bombing of Manchester in the 1990s. "This looks like there has been a bomb. The devastation is absolutely tremendous," he said.

I remember when there was a gas explosion at some pensioners flats down the road from me, I had walked past the front of it about 5 mins before hand! Shook all the buildings around the area.

A lot of reports from residents saying they could smell gas before and a leak was reported to National Grid though.

It says the bloke was recently made redundant, trying to bypass his gas meter IMO.

Gas explosions cause that sort of damage, doesn't have to be anything else, probably not accidental though.

People are over reacting about this, it's not as bad as people are making out.
Affected prob 100 people just stopping them getting to there houses for 3'ish days until they have checked everything so not as if everyone has lost there homes.
All people involved are white an hearing it's domestic related.
