I'll just quote this bit seeing everyone's ignored it

You won't get offered the course on a second offence.

you use more fuel coasting than you do leaving it in gear and not putting foot on throttle

I think you do so long as you haven't taken the course within the last 3 years and you fall within the constabulary's individual limits

Whether or not he's done the course in the last 3 years shouldn't/doesn't matter. He's a repeat offender and will be treated as such.

I thought that if the points are 3 years old then you could get offered the course?

From what I can find online, the only time you won't be offered the course is if you e done it within the last 3 years. It doesn't appear to take into account previous/current convictions so if you took the points last time or the course wasn't offered, it's viewed on its own, individual merit

I'd be interested to know either way.

On another tack, I reckon it'll be the next question insurance companies ask-whether you have points or have taken a speed awareness course

To be fair, the course is only costing you £25 plus 4 hours of your life.

This. Double fail on your part

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I think he means you-however, my counter argument would be engine braking. If you coast down a hill and buil up momentum to coast up the next hill without being in gear or using any throttle, surely you'll use less fuel overall. As being in gear downhill will restrict the vehicle especially when it reaches the next uphill section and then havin to use the throttle will negate the saving you just made? I don't mind being proven wrong
