Are you wanting to autorespond on the paypal confirm emails? Can you not just pipe the emails, scrape for buyers email/comment box for serial and reply back with the correct code?

Alternatively just use the API and knock up a paypal form; it isn't that much of an arseache.

I reckon I can build/host that for you - it's about time I did you a favour.

You wouldn't need any fancy email parsing bollocks - just a short script that accepts a POST request. I'm pretty sure PayPal can be set up to do this following successful payment.

Yeah script that receives a POST and sends an email would cover it.

Not sure what comes through Paypal. Also need to think how to actually market it. Ebay listing would be nice but not sure you can sell that type of thing. Reading you now also need to post data on a CD in addition to emailing.

Build it as a WordPress plugin - there are plenty of plugins which let you sell 'digital' products with a wide array of payment gateways. Here's one I'm going to use on a website in a couple of weeks: http://getshopped.org/

(After a transaction, PayPal posts back various pieces of data to your web server. It's up to you what you do with that but you'll get enough info back from them to use to decide whether to release the stereo code or not. No need to bollocks about reading emails).

There's a big flaw with using PayPal's Form payments (as shown here - http://www.micahcarrick.com/paypal-ipn-with-php.html) in that it's quite easy to change the form data. So unless you put in the necessary checks on the IPN then you could grab free codes.

Look at the Express Checkout API, it's straight forward and everything is hardcoded; only downside is that you need a SSL cert but grab a free one for StartSSL or a £4 year one from Namecheap.

Ed - Using Wordpress would be far too OTT for what Ian needs; essentially a single pay with a paypal button.
