I love Star Wars, but I'm by no means a purist.
The amount of stories within novels, films, comic books, games etc. that all take place in this same universe is frankly staggering.
With all these stories, I see no reason why a good team shouldn't be able to make some fantastic films. Yes, they will not feature all the familiar faces, but the universe created by Lucas is more than big enough to introduce new characters and storylines.
I have high hopes for the future of the franchise. A step back to live action cinema is just what it needs. 
Worst case scenario, we don't get any more good films. If they don't try, that's a guarantee.

I think SW couldn't have landed in better hands to be honest.
This should be a good opportunity to branch away from the Skywalker storyline (not sure if they will though). I look forward to it.

I think revisiting Han, Luke and Leia would be a potentially bad idea.
It would make much more sense to have a completely new story which doesn't try too hard to be canon with the first six films.
But Matthew Vaughn directing, I could see that work.

I had in my mind that it may have been based around Han and Leia's kids dealing with the fallout following the end of the Empire and maybe even an older Luke rebuilding the Jedi Council, predominately so they dont have to cast Hamill or any of the original cast for that matter

Hamill is a terrible actor and the absolute worst part of the original trilogy. It would be idiotic to have him on board except for a cameo.

It's just so wrong.
I couldn't have picked a better director, he's the best choice. But it just isn't needed. Purely a money making excersise. Unless he has a heart attack directing, it will just be another job.
Fucking shambles this. I'm a big believer in capiltism but ffs. Leave it alone!!

I'd like it to feature more of the original films effects - Puppets, models etc over CGI. Pixar will probably be on board and do it all though.
