You could train them to rally driver standard,
Doesn't mean they won't be lazy and sloppy.

I've seen some shocking driving from emergency vehicles, normally police.
Normal cops shouldn't be allowed to speed unless they've had some proper training.
why? you do it? we all do it? and other than pow, we are not trained

Then you can prosecute/sack them for bad driving. Is it not all about proving they should be able to do it, whether they actually can or not?

People are idiots and thats the only problem here.
I notice a siren coming from ages away, either in my car or not and i get out the way. Its the mindless idiots mincing around in their bubbles that get in the way.

jesus christ i agree with 3cm .
people getting knocked over by emergency services its their own fault, no offence its a friggin car/ambulance/fire engine they arent exactly small things to bloody miss they even help with flashing lights and noices incase your that thick you cant see a car on a road, if its a case its coming from a blind corner/unable to see it then its your own retarded fault for crossing in a stupid place.
seriously does no one listen to the hedgehogs nowadays on how to cross roads .
as for all the people moaning they really need to get a grip, im sure if they were injured or someone they knew was they would not be happy if said person died due to the emergency services not speeding.

It's actually + half again Mr Police officer Sir.

No its not. The Road Traffic Act gives no definite speed limits and it varies per Police force (and probably each Ambulance and Fire Service). The half and half again was for whichever fire service that was.

From personal experience its the first response ambulance cars that speed to get to the scene of an accident as they generally have the equipment to access and treat the situation giving the actual ambulance time enough to get to the scene safely.

Sat a driver assessment at work the other week. The assessor was a trainer for police etc. He said the standard of some police driving who have even taken the pursuit training was appalling

The half + half thing is force specific and policy not law.... You can justify breaching policy not law. I have definitely changed the way i drive since the chap in hampshire was prosecuted, no way would I want to go through all that.
As for the btp officer in the van well words fail me... He didnt listen to a single bit of his response course

I know Paramedics have to do alot of training for the driving part of the job because my sister has just done it.
She had to do her C1 theory then practical.
Then another theory as part of her training with the NW Ambulance Service.
Then a practical course for 2 weeks which included alot of city and rural driving both day and night. Cities they had never been to!
Skid pan training with a professional rally driver instructor.
Then a practical assessment at the end of the driving course.
Then to be able to drive the Rapid Response Vehicle there is another course...
