Would never take off.
Would need the airbus A320 mod to get it off the ground.

there is the main problem, about the best camera you can bodge onto one of these is a go pro hd, as its light enough these things are very sensitive to too much weight, 100 grams is too much and even a go pro challenges that, and the quality isnt actually that much better than this dogcam sport bullet hd cam. A lot of the quality is reduced due to vibrations etc
Also those captures are taken from video feed, so are never going to be clear like a normal photo

It's a must for these imo, all very well having decent video streams, but if you want to show stills then it looks a bit gash.

Yeah I know, not knocking what you've posted etc, understand its just a still from video. The actual drone or mod could be sold and marketed for all sorts of reasons if it could product decent quality stills too.

Lifting weight is you problem, got to remember the AR was created as a 'toy' and isn't really the platform for this sort of thing. Better to use a Mikrokopter or similar (have a look on www.buildyourowndrone.co.uk), then you can start using gyro-mounts with SLR cameras etc (obviously there's a big difference in cost ie: AR is a few hundred, hexacopter or similar is thousands).
Edit - Video for anyone that cares: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BbhNgTix9o

It is a toy, but i think it has some good tech for a toy, gyro sensors, barometric altitude sensor, ultrasonics, downwards camera for fixed hovering hold, brushless motors, carbon fibre central cross frame etc.
it doesnt have the best in terms of power to lift extra weight mind

That is all good stuff Steve but the hobbyist market can do all that now.

No, i complete agree. For the cost vs what you get, it's pretty damn good and no doubt a laugh. But you're not attaching a Red camera or a 5D to ones of these anytime soon
Saying that, it'll be interesting to see how far you can mod an AR. Gutting it of WiFi gear and replacing it with 'straight' RC gear should be too much of a task; you're almost there with the mods you've used.

it is a straight RC gear mod Dom, range about 2.5kms with the top end receiver. Spektrum stuff
going to be offering two packages at the mo,
AR600 based mod with a 2.5kms range
AR6115e based mod with 1000-1500 foot range which will be less expensive than the former.
Also will be offering a mod that includes a GPS logger so you can make pretty google earth based data plots of your flight, that includes 3d modelling so you can see your altitude

At the moment you're still running the original AR gear with a RC receiver and an Arduino emulating the original API commands. I mean gut it of the linux system/WiFi crud and just use RC ie: similar setup to what you'd have on a Mikrokopter.
