Be hard to find a hot hatch that isnt considered chavvy to some people. The clio is probably the best option although i've never been a fan. I wouldnt worry about what is classed as chavvy, just get whatever you'll be happy with. If age isnt an issue you could probably get a clean 16v crx for that budget or a half decent nova.

How cheap do they go for now?

Just realised that the OP wanted a vauxhall. Can't imagine anything other than a astra/corsa vxr would look shite in white.

How about something outside the box.

Clio 1.8 16v, 306 Gti-6, 205 1.9 Gti, 307 XSi 16v, 206 Gti or possibly even a Gti 180 as they have dropped in price.
