It's a definite improvement over XP or Vista.
If you don't like the Win7 taskbar, you'll hate the Win8 one - no Start Bar!

Fugly is fine, I just like having a bar with tasks on.
Hovering over something to get the other windows can do one, tabs can do one, anything other than a button on a bar per window can do one.

You can make win7 look more like Vista:
Right-click on the task bar, properties, change the combo box highlighted above, then "unpin" all the gay icons on your taskbar.

I couldn't agree more.
(you'll notice I prefer to remove all the 'theme' bollocks in all my Windows installs; I like my Windows looking circa Windows 2000 thankyouverymuch)

Woo, that changes things.
How does it handle additional monitors? Bar on those as well? Last time I tried it I could only get either one bar on the main and none on the others, or an aftermarket thing which the colours were all to cock.
Also what happens when you right click on a button?
I can right click and close a window without thinking, the Win 7 one was in a different place, slower.

Not sure about the multiple monitors - I'll get back to you on that.
You can have three different right-clicks...
Right-click with 'everything made out of sweets' mode on:
Right-click with Aero turned off:
Classic right-click:

I may have cheated a little with the classic right-click instead of the gash 'jump menu'... you need a third-party app to do that:

Or you can hold shift while you right-click (I have no idea why Microsoft thought that would be a good idea).
Or you can ALT+F4 instead, obviously.
