Anyways, I'm going to see it in less than an hour, what do I need to look out for besides the obvious?

As people have said good cars tbh ive had mine 3 years and 40k and all ive replaced is serviceable items.

Things to check:
Rust on inner wings under fuse box and ecu tray.
Play in rear axle, hands behind the wheel and pull from the top out, should soon feel play if its gone.
Gearbox's are chocolate so check it gets all gears ok, If it whines the diff bearings are on there way out but could last another 10 miles or 10k, so up to you.
Sun roof seals like to leak.

Tbh apart from them there decent cars, i love mine to bits and cant see me getting rid any time soon as its cheap to run and quite nippy.

In short really chuckable cars and brilliant on fuel.

Mine:

Just got back. Under the boot carpet is soaking wet and the backbox has gone rusty and is leaking.

I took it for a test drive and seemed to drive fine, no noises or anything.

I've decided not to have it.
I can afford to be fussy already having a car and I really wanna blue one like in the pic above, the one I looked at was silver, already had a silver car and would like something different

My 206 gti was good on fuel, the 206 is a better car for the sake of £2-300 a year btw ..

Go on...

Small hatch, cheap to insure, gets to 60mph in 8secs. Please tell me what else there is for around their price range.

I hated mine tbh. Totally standard but just felt like a shit car all round.

As for the safety side of things, well iirc they scored a higher star rating than the E36 and there not famed for being not well built.

Yeah cos a 172/ 182 for 1k will be a great buy

Had 2 vtrs in my time, and if you can ignore the 'saxo stigma' they are cracking little cars. Cheap to run & fun to drive, have it 6 months and sell it on for what you paid for it. Bish bash bosh - banger economics

My sister had a 172 for years, yeah a great car but personally, I don't want one.

Never said I CAN'T run a 206 GTi or VTS, I just don't want to. Whats wrong with wanting to save some money?
I've had my 206 for 3 years now, fancy a change.

Like what? you can pick them up for less than £1k now

Only thing I'll say is you might not like the pedals, I'm only a size 8 and the pedals in my sister's 106 are tiny

[Edited on 21-04-2013 by mattant]

I'm a size 13 and I was ok with my VTR and XSi.
Tbh, they are little tin cans that will rattle like buggery. But they handle fantastically well, they are pretty nippy and you can get surprisingly good mpg from them. Naturally the VTS is a good bit quicker but either one is a riot. You'll always get hatred from CS as it was the main rival for years

A VTR and a 172/182 are very different things For a grand, I'd take the Saxo.

People saying saxos are shit, i do agree but they handle pretty well from the box unlike a corsa. And both a corsa and a saxo will be a rattly bag of shite tbh. Mines on 34k and is not quiet in the slightest. My gf had a vtr and she prefered it to driving my corsa. Lol
