So your just after a vag show car then more than anything??? Why not go for the gttdi instead. Looks just as good and just as quick if not quicker with a map. Best of both worlds.

Mainly because ive never had a petrol turbo before and I like the idea. I did consider the diesels and ive had a turbo diesel in past and liked it but I dont particularly need economy as weve got 2 cars and I prefer the sound etc. Mainly just personal preference again really! Again I think ill keep this car a long time as it'll tick all boxes for me.

Tbh if you are looking to spend around £3k-£3.5k on a Golf Turbo, have you thought about a TT225??
Would get a good 1 in your budget and more chance of it holding its value over a Golf.

The 20v 5cyls are very thirsty. Used to cost me fifteen quid to get to work and back everyday. About a 18 miles round trip back when petrol was cheaper too.

R32 for 4k will likely be a dog, even 5k I doubt it would be a good example and its not the kind of car that you want to scrimp on when buying as it'll come back and bite you in the arse with hefty bills

3.5k is very top end of my budget anyway. I apprieciate the other suggestions but ive I'm 90% set on it.
Is milage an issue on these? Its not something that generally puts me off but should it be on this engine?

that works out about 8mpg in current fuel prices, that's pretty shocking.
